Who can benefit from Structural Integration

"This is the gospel of Rolfing: When the body gets working appropriately, the force of gravity can flow through. Then, spontaneously, the body heals itself."-Ida P. Rolf

Who needs structural integration?

Structural Integration can provide benefits to a wide range of body types as well as help those with a wide range of conditions. From the chronic pain sufferer to the Olympic athlete, anyone can benefit from Structural Integration. Here are some of common ways in which the fascia becomes impaired.

  • Accidents, injuries and falls
  • Overweight
  • Emotional Trauma
  • Lack of Mobility
  • Incorrect sitting, standing, sleeping habits
  • Work related repetitive movement stress

Structural Integration loosens and rejuvenates muscles, tissues and ligaments that have stiffened or sagged due to immobility or after being in a cast. It has long lasting effects that will help protect against re-injuring the affected area.

Highly conditioned athletes can benefit from structural integration as well. The athlete often experiences strains and minor injuries and are often in the ongoing process of healing and conditioning various areas of the body. By improving muscle tissue function this ongoing process of healing and conditioning is optimized.

One must note however that the therapeutic value is merely a byproduct of the process which focuses on the body as a whole. The idea is, by balancing and optimizing the flow of energy throughout the whole body it will function more efficiently and with less strain and effort. This way the bodies own healing process will become more efficient and hold the correct body alignment as it works.
